I Kind of Loved It!
I am a HUGE fan of R.S. Grey’s and have been waiting on pins and needles for her to release a new book, so when The Fortunate Ones released, I could not wait to get my hands on this book and dive right in, and this book did NOT disappoint!
Both James and Brooke come from money, but both are completely different. Where James embraces his life, Brooke tries to get as far away from her heritage as possible. She is actually working as a cabana girl for the club her family belongs too, trying to make money before she can find another job and continue living her dream. Brooke, along with all the other woman at Twin Oaks, are obsessed with James Ashwood, but Brooke keeps her obsession a little more discreet, until one night when she is asked to have a seat and have a drink with him.
That one drink leads to an interesting romance and a push and pull that is both angsty, sweet, and one heck of a ride for these two. Where James knows what he wants, Brooke is scared, and thinks she knows what she wants. The attraction between these two cannot be denied, and that’s not the problem, the problem is Brookes indecisiveness and her being so skittish with James. I hated at times how she played with his emotions, even if she didn’t realize she was doing it, and how she seemed to lead him on. Everyone and their mother could see how much he wanted her and only her, but she only felt like she was going to be tied down, when really he was handing her the world, if only she could see it.
The back and forth between these two at times was hot and sexy, and other times hair pullingly crazy, and other times hilarious. I loved their banter, the inner dialogue of Brooke, and how neurotic she could be at times and how much of a mess she seemed to make of her life. I kept rooting for them even when things seemed like it would never work out. When James seemed to have all but given up, I hoped and prayed these two would find a way back to one another, that Brooke would figure out that they belonged together, and at times I really felt like maybe it wasn’t in the cards and it broke my heart. R.S. Grey had me on pins and needles with this book wondering if these two were ever going to figure their crap out!
The Fortunate Ones was definitely a book that had me laughing, screaming, and falling in love. The way things ended with Brooke and James was perfect, and I couldn’t have asked for a better ending, but OMG the things we had to go through to see if they would wouldn’t make it, I just couldn’t handle it at times. I kept telling myself, “one more chapter” but the next thing I knew, the book was over and I was mad, because the book was over! I couldn’t believe I finished the entire book in one sitting. This book definitely pulled me in and I truly enjoyed this crazy journey that I was taken on. If you’re looking for one heck of an angsty yet funny and sexy read, then definitely pick up The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey today, you will not regret it!
