I Kind of Loved It!
I’m a huge fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills books so anything she writes is an immediate one-click for me. When I saw the blurb for Fake Fiancée I knew I needed to get my hands on this book ASAP and it definitely did not disappoint.
When Sunny and Max agree to be in a fake relationship they agree to not fall for one another. Max needs Sunny to help his image, he may be amazing on the football field, but the Heisman voters want a player who is also good off the field as well. Nothing can go wrong, right?
Unlike every other girl on campus, Sunny doesn’t fall at Max’s feet and doesn’t throw herself at him, just the opposite actually. She pushes him, she doesn’t put up with his crap and I think this makes him want her more, even if he doesn’t realize it at first. Sunny has had a hard life and she’s worked for everything she’s had, so she doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap, but she’s loyal to a fault to the ones she cares about. She keeps trying to not fall for Max and to not get close to him, but the more time they spend together, you can tell it’s a losing battle for both of them.
The connection these two have is undeniable, and watching it bloom from a mutual annoyance of each other, to a great friendship to something more was beautiful. I loved how this wasn’t an insta-love book, and it took a while for these two to really come to terms with what was going on. The connection that they shared that went back further than their “first” meeting was awesome too. Max can be difficult to like at times, but like Sunny he is loyal. He comes off as a jerk, but deep down he’s a softie and will do anything to keep Sunny happy.
This was a beautifully written story from beginning to end! I couldn’t put this book down and I fell in love with both Max and Sunny and even Sunny’s crazy grandma Mimi! I totally want to be her when I grow up! If you’re looking for a new adult romance with a bit of suspense thrown in, definitely pick up Fake Fiancée by Ilsa Madden-Mills today, it’s one book you won’t regret reading!
