I Kind of Loved It!
You know the saying, don’t judge a book by it’s cover? This is one of those books. When a friend suggested this series since they knew I was starting to get back into Fantasy I looked up this book and was like ummm are you sure? The cover just made me wonder what I was getting into, but I dove in because she told me I wouldn’t regret it, and she was right.
Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews is fast paced, and one I couldn’t put down. I fell hard for the characters and the story she laid out for us. The different houses, the powers, the mystery, and the humor in this book. Nevada is a private investigator for her family’s firm, she’s the only full time investigator and she does a lot of small time deals, but when MII calls her in to deal with a big case and to bring Adam Pierce in, she laughs at them, until they threaten to take away her family’s business. Stuck with bringing in the notorious Adam Pierce back home to his family she’s in over her head, and that’s not the worst of it, she’s caught the attention of Mad Rogan who has now kidnapped her, and now he wants to help.
Watching Nevada and Mad work together is hilarious and frustrating at times. They are both extremely hard headed, and Mad hasn’t worked with someone like Nevada before so he doesn’t quite know how to handle her, or her family. The family just speaks what’s on their mind, and Mad gets a taste of it over and over again. I loved Nevada’s family and how protective they were of her and how they hated Mad and then towards the end became his #1 fan.
This is labeled as a romance, but it really isn’t, I think we’ll get more romance in the next books, but this is really setting up the dynamic between these two, and I think what is about to become a major battle between the houses and good and evil. A storm is brewing in Houston, and Adam was just a toy for some people who we may or may not know yet. This was a unique story that had me on my toes most of the time. I would pick this book up and be pulled into the story and then realize it was hours later, because the story was just that good. The storytelling in this book is beautiful, and plays out like a show coming to life right in front of you. If you’re a lover of fantasy or just wanting to get your feet wet, this is a perfect book. Nevada is feisty, funny, and a strong character, this Mad is may not be the best guy, but he has his good qualities as well. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
