I Kind of Loved It!
What an amazing and angsty read! This book captivated me from the prologue all the way till the end. I fell in love and hated each and every character and couldn’t put it down!
Complicate Me is the story of Alex. Lucas, and The Good Ol’ Boys. We meet Alex as a young girl, and get to see her relationship with Lucas, Austin, Dylan, and Jacob. Alex thinks she’s one of the boys, and the boys all treat her like a little sister. Their bond is inseparable, but her bond with Lucas is stronger than any other in the group. We get to see Alex and all the boys grow up, and things change for everyone in the group.
Watching Alex and Lucas navigate around their feelings for one another drove me nuts at times. I wanted the two of them to get on the same page at the same time, but when one was finally figuring out how they truly felt, the other would go and do something to hurt them. This back and forth and love and hate relationship between them drove me crazy and made me fall in love with Lucas. I know some people were all “Team Cole” but for me, it was always Lucas. I wasn’t a fan of Cole’s, but without him things could have ended completely different with Alex.
This story takes us through years of Alex and Lucas’s life and there are times I wanted to scream and cry and then rejoice because I was so happy. Watching Alex grow up and into the person she is now was beautiful. She made a lot of stupid mistakes, but they all brought her to where she needed to be in life. Watching Lucas throughout this book also was frustrating. He loved Alex even as a kid, but his was of “protecting” her ended up hurting her more than helping her.
I hated seeing their bond break in this book when they went their separate ways, not just Alex and Lucas, but all the boys. This group needed to stay together to truly be happy, and once everyone started going their own ways is when things really took a turn for the worse for all of them. As the book progresses you really see that it’s Alex that keeps them together, and without her the bond isn’t as strong.
Lucas and Alex are meant to be together, their love for one another is so strong, but at the same time their love is what tears them apart at times in this book. They hurt each other, they walk away, and they turn their backs on one another when things get hard. They say some awful things to one another and my heart broke for both of them multiple times in this book. I wanted to reach through my Kindle and strangle both of them, and then hug them.
Lifelong friendships are tested, thrown away, and brought back together in this book. Not only is this book a beautiful love story, but it is one of growing up and friendship. As soon as I finish writing this review, I will be diving into Forbid Me to get Jacob and Lilly’s story! I love each and every one of these characters and can’t wait for more from all of them! This was the first book of M. Robinson’s that I’ve read and it most definitely will NOT be the last!
