I Liked It!
Dirty Boxing by Harper St. George and Tara Wyatt is a raw, sexy, and angsty second chance romance!
Jules has accepted a job working with her father in Vegas to help market the WFC and maybe have a relationship with him after all of the years of not speaking to him, she never expected the man whose heart she broke and she really hasn’t gotten over, to be the new fighter her dad has signed to help move the WFC to the next level. Nick when he signed on to the WFC is looking for a change and to help them with their middleweight championship, and a new start, but when he sees Jules, the woman who walked out on him and broke his heart, everything changes.
Nick was heartbroken when Jules up and left him in Chicago, and he had no clue who she really was, and Jules had her reasons for leaving but never expressed them to Nick. Now that they are forced to work together, the passion, chemistry, and anger from the past are all still there. I loved how Jules tried to deny her feelings for Nick but every time she was around him she couldn’t think straight and all she could remember was her time spent with him. She doesn’t believe she can have a relationship with him because of their careers and the only relationships she knows are her parents, and I hated this about her. She never learned to follow her heart and let herself get in the way too many times of true happiness. Nick on the other hand knows what he wants and continues to go after it. He’s relentless in his pursuit of Jules and I felt bad when she kept turning him down.
Once these two finally give in, with the help of Jules best friend Megan, I was like YES, but they never really worked through a lot of the problems that led to their demise in the first place. Jules chose to go head first into the present, and never really work through her issues with why she was so afraid of relationships to begin with. When things got hard again, I wanted to scream at her, and then at Nick, especially with how both of these characters handled the situation. I felt as if these characters didn’t do a lot of talking in this book, and when they did it was arguing, or foreplay. Most of the relationship we saw was sex between the characters, and don’t get me wrong, it was HOT, but I would have loved to see them communicating more, like we did towards the end of this book.
This was a great start to the series, and I truly did love Nick’s character, Jule’s character grew on me, but at first I must admit I was not a fan. I am definitely looking forward to more books in this series, and I believe the next one is Megan’s book, which should be amazing, as she is awesome as Jules’ best friend. I give these two authors high praise for co-writing this book, as you couldn’t tell it was written by two different people. If you’re looking for a sexy fighter, and a second chance romance, definitely consider adding Dirty Boxing to your TBR list today!
I have received this book as a member of the XOXperts, XOXO After Dark’s official street team, in exchange for an honest review.
