I Kind of Loved It!
L.J. Shen is an immediate one-click author for me. Her way of writing a story that pulls you in and her ability to write an alpha male that you hate to love just is out of this world, and Midnight Blue another example of this.
Indie needed a job to help herself and her family out of a bad situation, taking care of Alex Winslow while he was on tour for three months should have been easy. Make sure he didn’t snort any cocaine and drink any alcohol. She didn’t really understand what she was getting into when Alex came into her life. Alex is an enigma and a true mess.
Watching how Alex tried to push Indie away over and over again, and how Indie pushed him back in the beginning was hilarious, yet hard. Alex didn’t want a babysitter and Indie needed this job as much as she needed air to breathe. When Alex realized Indie wasn’t going to give up, and that Lucas was starting to show interest in her, he decided to switch things up, and I loved seeing a softer side of him, but that side didn’t appear often. Alex truly has alpha tendencies and they appear often in this book. The push and pull of these two is incredible and you know it’s only a matter of time before they give in to the chemistry that is out of this world.
Both Indie and Alex are fighting demons but its how they handle them that is truly different. Indie chooses to try to see the good in this world and not let life get her down more than it already has, where Alex continues to let life bring him down and makes himself a solitary and angry person. The only person he lets in really is Indie and he even manages to mess that up over and over again.
Not only do we have an amazing story between Alex and Indie, but we also have Indie and her brother’s relationship that is going on, and their backstory, as well as Alex and Fallon and Will as well as his band-mates (Lucas, Alfie, as well as Blake, Jenna and Hudson). All of these relationships are complicated and cause even more drama in this book and cause things to blow up over and over again for them.
If you do not like a ton of angst and drama in a book, then Midnight Blue may not be the book for you, but if you do, then trust me, this book is a definite one-click! I had to take a while to read this one, so I could savor it. I was on pins and needles watching Alex and Indie’s relationship progress and everything that happened between them. There’s so many ups and downs (more downs than ups) and many nail biting moments and times I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. I hated Alex most of the time, and I wanted to strangle Indie as well, but this book was perfection! Trust me, if you’re looking for a beautifully written angsty romance then Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen is the book for you!
