I Loved It!
Pretty Dead Girls by Monica Murphy is the perfect mix of angst, drama, suspense, and teenage romance!
When I first saw this book cover I was intrigued, and then I read the blurb and knew I needed to read this book ASAP, so once it hit my kindle, I dropped everything so I could jump right in, and this book did not disappoint. From the very beginning where we see popular volleyball star Gretchen get murdered in the church parking lot all the way through the end, Pretty Dead Girls had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who was killing all of the popular girls in the school and who could be trusted and who couldn’t be.
Penelope is the queen bee at school and the president of the Larks, the “It” club at school. When all of her friends start to turn up dead, she starts to get worried, and when the one person she never really paid attention to, starts to intrigue her, and also seems to have a connection to the girls becomes a part of her life, things start to get interesting. Cass has a past as well, and is as mysterious as they come. He had me guessing throughout this book if he was good or bad, and what secrets he held, but his devotion to Penelope seemed true so I wanted to trust him and my trust seemed to go back and forth just like Penelope’s.
This book is definitely high on angst and drama. Throughout the book I was questioning everyone and everything that was happening. I loved how Monica Murphy would put us in the mind of the killer when a murder was taking place but never give us any clues as to who it was, but just enough to see what that person was feeling. It was amazing to see things going down as they happened, and then jump right back into Penelope’s point of view. These murders are gruesome and tears up the town of Cape Bonita where nothing ever goes wrong.
Watching Penelope and Cass trying to figure out who is responsible, while trying to clear their names, and stay safe at the same time had me on edge, and holding my breath multiple times throughout this book. I never knew what was going to happen and when it was going to happen, which had me gripping onto my kindle to see how this story was going to end. The only thing I wish we could have had, was a little bit more of an ending. It felt that once the killer was revealed, we had a rushed ending where I would have liked a bit more of a conclusion to the story.
Overall this was an amazing book that I could not put down, I loved Penelope and Cass’s story and all of the angst and drama that Monica Murphy brought in Pretty Dead Girls!
