I Liked It!
The Tattered Gloves by J.L. Berg is an emotional and inspiring book that will sweep you off your feet and will leave you emotionally wrecked once you finish it!
I kept going back and forth on this book on if I should one-click it, from the time I saw the cover, to when it released. I was intrigued, but I was also a little nervous about what exactly I would be getting into with this book, as I was sure it wasn’t going to be an easy story for Willow and I wasn’t sure I could handle the things we were going to find out about her. I will admit even after one-clicking I had to talk myself into reading it, but then I just decided to go for it, and I’m so glad I did.
Willow’s story is sad, it’s not easy to read at times, but at the same time it’s inspirational, and full of love. She has not had the easiest life, but once she moves in with with her aunt Addy who she never knew existed, and starts to slowly let people in, even if she doesn’t trust them fully, you get to see Willow open up a bit. Seeing Allison barge into Willows life and refuse to take no as an answer to being her friend was awesome, it was like Allison knew Willow needed a friend and Allison was the perfect friend for her. She didn’t judge her, and helped bring her out of her shell little by little, getting her to experience normal teenage experiences, and even getting her to open up about her past and opening up about why she wore the gloves. But the one person who really pushed through Willow’s boundaries was Sam, even if he didn’t realize it.
Sam and Willow (or Mittens as he likes to call her) have a difficult relationship to say the least. She definitely judged a book by it’s cover with him, and things started off on the wrong foot. Every time they started to make progress and would seem to become friends something would go wrong and it would go back to ground zero. I loved how Sam seemed to finally decided enough was enough and pushed Willow to open up with him. He was so careful with her and understanding, and even at such a young age, he was much more mature than most men twice his age. He along with Addy and Allison helped Willow through her awful past, even without most of them knowing the full truth of it, and helped her become the girl we all fell in love with at the end of this book.
So much happens in this book and watching Willow grow through her struggles and everything that happens was something beautiful to read. J.L. Berg wrote a beautiful story that had me in tears at times, and my heart breaking at others. This was a story that definitely pulled at my heart-strings and made me want to hug the ones I love dear harder tonight. For anyone who may be wondering if they should pick up this book or not, don’t make the mistake I did and overthink it, just do it! You will not regret one-clicking The Tattered Gloves by J.L. Berg, it is one book I will not regret reading, it was absolutely beautiful!
