I Liked It!
The Upside of Being Single is a romantic comedy that is full of laughs and angst. I adored Mellie and Jake’s story and watching all of the awkward encounters between these two.
After a stressful day of work, Melli and her two best friends go out for Mardi Gras, and when she’s dared to flash a group of random guys, she goes for it, never thinking she’ll see them again, when she shows up for work to meet her new boss, she’s shocked to see the hot guy she flashed is her new boss and she’s sharing an office with him, things definitely get interesting. The chemistry between Mellie and Jake is undeniable, but Mellie can’t get over him being her boss, and the fact that she flashed him.
Jake loves to push Mellie and you can tell he’s attracted to her, but knows she’s his employee, but there’s something there that neither of them can deny. Mellie tries to be strong, but Jake has all but given up and pursues her. Watching Mellie try to be strong enough for both of them is interesting since she has no will power, and every time she gives in to the attraction, the next minute she goes cold and pushes Jake away. She’s so hot and cold with him. She knows she wants him, but she thinks she can’t have him because he’s her boss. Each and every minute they spend together though, shows how much they belong together, and I loved watching Jake find reasons for Mellie to spend time with him.
This book definitely had me laughing out loud and at times I wanted to pull my hair out because I just wanted Mellie to give in and give in to Jake. He’s basically perfect and he has made his intentions know with how much he wants her. Their banter is hilarious, and how clumsy Mellie is will have you cracking up. This girl is a walking disaster! The Upside of Being Single was a perfect rom-com that had just the right amount of steam, angst, and laughs. The characters were perfectly written, and the story fresh and funny. I only wish we could have had an epilogue that focused on them instead of the secondary characters.. but I will say I am looking forward to Chloe’s story!
