I Liked It!
This Regret is a powerful story that had me on pins and needles throughout the entire book!
Phoenix Winters and Kellan Haze have known each other since they were children. Kellan was Phoenix’s older brothers (Adric) best friend and the night Phoenix lost Adric, she also lost Kellan. He disappeared and there was no one to watch out over here or that truly understood her pain. Eight years later, when Phoenix runs into Kellan, she’s in shock, pain, and happy at the same time.
Watching Phoenix and Kellan navigate around one another was frustrating at times. Phoenix has always loved Kellan, but Kellan hurt her, and his family when he left, so she’s hard to trust him completely again, without him breaking her heart. Kellan has a secret, and he shouldn’t be home, but he is, and he knows it will only be a matter of time before he leaves, so he doesn’t want to get close. Things definitely change though, because no matter how much these two try, they can’t stay away from one another.
Watching these two finally have a little bit of weight off their shoulders with them being back in one anothers lives was awesome. Seeing Phoenix and Kellan visit Adric’s grave brought me to tears (both happy and sad), and even though they will truly never move on from that loss, a little bit of the heaviness of the loss is no longer there when they are together.
Since this book is told in dual POV we get to know more of why Kellan left and his reasons for leaving, long before Phoenix does. I loved and hated him for leaving his family, and in a way I understand why he did, but he should know they could never hate him (well all but Kade). I wanted to smack Kellan across the head many times in this book for not telling Phoenix the entire truth. As the story progresses you can see this is going to end badly for one, if not both of them, because of the secrets that Kellan is keeping. What shocked me, was when Kellan put everything together. He had one missing piece to the whole story and when that piece is revealed I wanted to scream!
This book is full of angst, hot sex, a tatted up alpha that you can’t help but fall in love with, drama, chemistry, laughs and cries. I must admit, the beginning of the book was a little hard for me to get into, but once it got going, it was amazing. I stayed up most of the night to finish this book, then was kicking myself for reading it so quickly. I loved Kellan (like LOVED HIM) and Phoenix was a pretty amazing character as well. I really enjoyed their story, and was crying happy tears at the end of their book! This was the first story of Victoria Ashley’s that I’ve read, and it definitely will not be the last!
