So I finally dived in and read my first K.A. Tucker book, and in one word, it was amazing! Ten Tiny Breaths is an emotional book about finding yourself, forgiveness, and moving forward, and K.A. Tucker did an amazing job with this story.
We meet Kasey Cleary and her sister Livie as they are arrive in Miami to get away from their aunt and disgusting uncle. They are all each other has left in this world, and Kasey will do anything to make sure that Livie can have her dreams, since she feels that her own are now ruined.
Kasey and Livie move into a run down apartment and soon become friends with Storm and her daughter Mia. Well… Livie becomes friends, Kasey just tries to tolerate them. There is also the hot other neighbor Trent that seems to get under Kasey’s skin all the time and she’s drawn to him.
After seeing everything in her life get torn away, Kasey is closed off, and all her sister wants is for her to live and be like the “old Kasey” again. Being around Storm and the frustrating Trent seem to bring Kasey out of her shell, and I loved the little glimpses of happiness we got to see in Kasey throughout this book. Trent really seems to bring out emotions in Kasey that she isn’t used to feeling, and Storms friendship is one that Kasey holds dearly throughout this book.
This is a tough read at times, not because it’s a bad book, but because it’s so emotional, and your heart goes out to all of these characters and everything that they have gone through. The twist towards the end was something I definitely was not expecting, and really threw me for a loop, but I must admit, I loved it!
While reading this story, I fell in love with the side and supporting characters as much as I fell in love with the main characters. I couldn’t really find one (besides their uncle and aunt) that I didn’t end up loving by the end of this story. When I say this book is emotional, it’s not an ugly cry book, but one that has a lot of ups and downs and has you feeling what these characters are going through.
Even though Ten Tiny Breaths is part of a series, it has it’s own HEA and is a stand alone. I can’t wait to jump into One Tiny Lie to get Livie’s story next! This one definitely should be added to your TBR list and read asap! Don’t wait forever like I did.
