I Liked It!
I am a huge fan of Rebecca Brooke’s and Just Once was another amazing read by her!
Just Once is a companion stand alone for those of you who have read and loved Letter’s Home and wanted to see Collin find his HEA. Even if you’ve not read Letters Home, this book can be read by itself without any issues, but trust me, you’ll want to read it if you haven’t yet!
Collin is a Sgt. Major in the Army Rangers, and still dealing with his friend, Nate’s, death. Right before they get deployed he has nightmares about the night he died, and it plagues him until he’s back overseas. Things change for him when Joey, the mysterious girl from the bar, ends up in his life, and his nightmares change. Joey is a strong woman, who’s also a pilot for the Army. When the two of them met, they never told each other what they did, but shared one amazing night together. Never thinking he’d see Joey again, Collin is utterly surprised when he shows up for his mission and she’s there.
Things between Joey and Collin are difficult at times, because they are both strong willed characters. I loved Joey’s perseverance in this book, and how even when things seemed to fall apart, she became stronger, and fought for who she wanted in her life, even if it felt like she was the only one fighting. Collin on the other hand, has a rough time in this book, and my heart broke for him over and over again, even when he was being a complete jerk. He’s had a rough hand dealt to him and he doesn’t handle his circumstances all that well.
Thanks to the help of Tanner, Greg and Danielle, Joey is able to bring Collin back, but it takes a long time to get back to a good place. Joey showed her strength in the latter part of this book with how she dealt with Collin and how she wouldn’t let him push her away. Watching her get him to admit what he needed, and then standing by him was beautiful.
Their story isn’t easy, it deals with some pretty rough subjects, but in the end, I was left with a happy heart. I am so happy to see Collin get his HEA, and to have also gotten to see how Danielle, Tanner and Greg are all doing. This was a beautifully written, heartfelt military romance that needs to be added to everyone’s TBR, especially if you’re looking for a strong male character, and a stronger female character that brings him to his knees.
