I Kind of Liked It!
I really have mixed feelings on this book. There are some parts of Royal Ruin that I really, really loved, and other parts that had me scratching my head and wanting to scream!
Everyone knows I love a good second chance romance, but to me, this one is classified as a second chance romance, but really these two just had a missed opportunity, and Emily chose wrong then 10 years later they are back each-others lives. They never really were together for them to have a second chance to make it work this time around, but that’s just my feelings, I felt that maybe it was a bit misleading with how this book was titled, so if you’re expecting a full blown second chance romance, be warned.
I will say I gravitated more towards Kit in this book than Emily. To me, even though he was closed off a lot, he knew what he wanted, but he thought things through and knew the risks he was going to take if he went for them, where Emily was so wishy washy, and she played with peoples hearts in this book. She seemed whiney to me at times, and weak. I hated how she couldn’t see what Kit was offering her, or see that he wasn’t her ex. Everything was always about her and I had a hard time connecting with her character. Kit on the other hand, yeah at times he could be cold, but as the book went on, he became so much more. He knew what he was risking to truly have feelings for Emily and to try to make a real relationship work with her. He knew what he was asking, and worked on trying to make it work with her. He did everything and anything to prove he wasn’t her ex, and it broke my heart that sometimes Emily couldn’t see past that.
This book definitely has some really great parts, but there are other parts that I just wasn’t thrilled by. Maybe I would have liked it better if I was able to connect with Emily’s character more. I really think that may have been my problem with this book, I just really didn’t like Emily! I am though looking forward the next book because I’m interested to see what happens with Rob’s story, especially after the epilogue in this book and maybe we’ll get to see some of Emily and I’ll start to like her more? Overall this book was enjoyable, just not one of my favorites.
