I Liked It!
If you’re looking for a book full of angst and missed opportunities than The Do-Over by Julie A. Richman is the book for you!
Wes and Tara‘s lives continue to intersect throughout the years but it’s always the right place at the wrong time for them. From their meeting years ago where everything seems so perfect and their connection is amazing, that you’re like nothing could go wrong, but unfortunately it does, Wes has a girlfriend, and a misunderstand keeps these two from saying goodbye and it’s years later before they see each other again. When their paths cross again, their lives have changed so much and it seems like they may finally be able to make a go of it for real this time, but just when you think they can make it work, things get complicated once again.
As much as I loved the “will they or won’t they” in this book, I also hated it. There was so much miscommunication and some trust issues that it drove me crazy at times, but at the same time I enjoyed it. It conflicted me and I had a love/hate relationship with the story-line. I loved Wes and Tara together and I hated all the missed opportunities that they had to be in each-others lives. When they finally had the chance to get it right, things seem to be going perfect, but then the other shoe drops and everything goes to crap and I wanted to scream. I totally get that Wes was upset, but the way he handled things was uncalled for and I hated him a little for how he treated Tara. On the other hand, Tara handled it with grace, through a broken heart, she kept a promise to someone who meant a lot to her and kept her head up and did the right thing.
These two have a beautiful connection and their love story is messy, complicated and full of angst. I was pulling for them to realize that they needed to get over everything going on and just be together, but it took so much for it to happen. At times I didn’t think they would ever make it. Wes definitely had some flaws, as did Tara, but in the end, they truly do belong together. This was a messy story, and yet as much as I wanted to pull my hair out, I adored how everything played out for these characters.
If you’re a lover of messy, complicated love stories, then The Do-Over by Julie A. Richman is definitely a book to add to your TBR list and one-click today. It will definitely have you pulling out your hair and falling in love with the characters!
