I Loved It!
Anyone who follows me and my reviews knows Historical Romance is definitely not a genre that I jump into at all, but there was something about the blurb of this book that made me want to dip my toe in and read this book, and man am I glad I gave The Look of Love a shot. This book grabbed me from the first paragraph and I was unable to put it down!
In The Look of Love we meet Ina and Gavin who are great friends, but when scandal arises, the only way to save Ina’s name is for Gavin and her to get married. They agree to rules to save their friendship, but the problem is Gavin holds a secret that he is madly in love with her, and Ina has no clue. When things heat up between them, Ina doesn’t understand how strong Gavin’s feelings are for her, and things get intense. Just when you think things are going to go great for them, everything takes a turn for these two and things get a little bit crazy, and their relationship is definitely put to the test.
I adored how much Gavin truly cared for Ina, and put her wants and needs as a priority in their relationship. He knew how much her sculpting meant to her, and never wanted to take that away from her. I hated though how he felt like he wasn’t good enough for her, when all she wanted was for him to continue following his dreams and being the Gavin she always knew. When they are forced to make some big decisions, the Gavin he became I wasn’t fond of. I understand that he was in a stressful situation, but anyone could see that Ina was miserable and everyone around her was making her even more so. I hated Grace and Sophie and how they made her feel and I wish Gavin could have seen through it and stood up for her more. Ina could have spoken up more, instead of trying to handle everything on her own, but these two characters are very headstrong, and it was the downfall of them for quite some time.
These two definitely had a long road to their happily ever after, but their story was beautiful and I fell deeply in love with both of them. Gavin and Ina both grew so much in this book and their love for one another transformed as the book went on. For anyone who loves historical romances, or those of you like me who this genre may not be their cup of tea, I highly recommend this book. It grabbed me from the beginning to the end, and I really could not put this book down. The writing was amazing and it took me back to a time and place where you would think things were much simpler, but it was just a different set of drama these characters had to deal with. The ending of this book was beautifully written and I can’t wait to see who the Matchmaker ends up making a match for next! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more books bu Julia Kelly in the future, as she may have just turned me into a historical romance fan!
I have received this book as a member of the XOXperts, XOXO After Dark’s official street team, in exchange for an honest review.
