I Kind of Liked It!
I have mixed feelings on this book, I really love quick romances, but I also like for the story to flow and for me to be able to connect a little bit more to the characters. In Music To My Ears, I had a hard time connecting to Austen throughout the whole book, and at times Jess as well.
Jess and Austen immediately start off on the wrong foot, and keep running into one another at the rodeo in which Jess and Peach Logic are performing and Austen is competing in. When Jess ends up in a bad situation and Austen saves her, things become a whirlwind and now Austen and Jess are in a predicament that throws them together for 2 weeks.
I think I would have enjoyed this story more, if Austen’s character was more likeable at times, or if Jess wasn’t so high-strung and trying to say she wasn’t. Obviously there was tension between these two, but they fought it, and some of the things said by Austen were just slaps in the face to Jess, and others were not but she took them so far, and acted out in childish ways.
This story does move very quickly, and in a short time span, and it is sort of an “insta-love” story, but I would have really enjoyed to see more of them getting their feelings for one another, since most of the time for Austen it was him not wanting anything to do with Jess but get through the 2 weeks with her, sure you could see he was attracted to her, but at least with Jess we could see she was developing feelings but fighting them, with Austen it was just a light-bulb moment after stringing her along all the time with his words of “I don’t do serious”, “love them and leave them” ,etc.
If you are looking for a quick insta-love romance than this might be the book for you, but for me Music To My Ears fell short compared to some of other Savanna Grey’s books. The story didn’t flow as beautifully as some of her other books, it seemed rushed to me. I will definitely be looking forward to the next book in Peach Logic though since I do love Savanna’s writing and can’ wait to see what’s next in this series.
