I Loved It!
Vampires, Werewolves, Sirens, Demons, Angels and Dark Ones… This book had them all and I loved every single second of this book!
In The Dark Ones we met Cassius and learned of his choice to win Stephanie over. I must admit, seeing Cassius as a human was quite hilarious. This man was at times hard to like in Ethan’s story, but seeing him as a human and working on showing Stephanie how much he cared for her was endearing and made me fall in love with him! He struggles with his new found mortality, his conscious and his weakness. Watching everyone’s reactions to Cassius when they first realized he was human was quite hilarious, especially Alex’s!
Stephanie has been in love with Cassius for as long as she can remember, seeing her come to grips with her new found Dark One status as well as dealing with her feelings for Cassius breaks my heart at times. She doesn’t know how much Cassius cares for her, and it takes him some time for her to finally realize it. Not only is Stephanie struggling with the changes in her life, but also with trying to fight the darkness inside of her. Cassius does everything he can to help her fight it, but the choice is ultimately up to her.
I loved how in Untouchable Darkness we got to see past events in Cassius‘s mind. The things this man has gone through and done is enough to break anyone’s heart, and yet he does what he needed to do to keep things at peace in the world. Seeing how far back Cassius, Mason, Alex and Ethan go was awesome, as well as getting to see more of his father, and learning of how Cassius was created. Seeing the past and inside of Cassius‘s mind really helped explain why he was the way he was.
There is so much that happens in this book that can’t be written in a review as it will spoil it for the reader, but I will say, I laughed, I cried, I was a nervous wreck at times, and I was left happy with how things ended for Cassius and Stephanie. Not only is this an amazing love story, but the twists and turns that Rachel Van Dyken takes us on in this book are amazing. Things I never saw coming happened, and in the end, as much as they shocked me, made perfect sense. The “family” of Ethan, Genesis, Alex, Mason, Cassius, and Stephanie is perfect. They are hard on one another, they help each other when in needed, they pick on one another, and they are always there for one another.
Even though this book is a standalone, I do suggest reading the first book so you are more connected to the characters and the dynamic of all of them. I wasn’t so sure how Rachel Van Dyken could make me love Cassius, but she definitely did. I fell hard for this Dark One!! I am now going to be waiting on pins and needles for Alex’s story, especially with how this book ended with his POV. Things are definitely about to get interesting in this circle of immortals, and I can’t wait!
